Finally the trout is rising again

Kjell with a fish on, the first on a dry fly this year

Kjell with a nice brown trout about 1 kg caught on a Once and Away.

After a late spring and a very slow start of the trout season the mayflies are finally hatching and the trout rising.

Finally what a lot of us consider to be the real flyfishing,  is happening., brown trout  rising to mayflies. The two Leptophlebias, L.marginata and L.vespertina have started hatching, and for a while this will give excellent dry fly fishing in a lot of lakes around Oslo. On some of the lakes the hatches are so sparce that any reasonable imitation of the dun will do. Some other lakes, however, have very heavy hatches and the best fly is usually a hatching dun or a floating nymph (emergers). Hans van Klinkens Once and Away, F-Fly, my CdC emerger or some other emerger have all been used with success. Some times the fishing can be very difficult, and having different flies to try can be important. On the website of OFA (Oslo fishing administration) there are frequent reports about the fishing conditions around Oslo (Sorry,  only in norwegian).

Flyfishing

20. des 2006

Fly fishing is a fascinating form of fishing. Small, almost weightless artificial ”bait”, the thing we call a fly, is presented for the fish, hoping it will mistake it for the real thing. Se portfolio »

Most of the canoes you see, zig zag along on the water in slow motion, and if you watch them from the shore it is almost impossible to tell where they are heading. Se portfolio »
